Cultural Celebrations

Each month, the school held a show, performed by all the children. Those shows are in accordance with the Indian cultural calendar.

Moreover, sports days are programmed two times per year.

Finally, the annual day is a great celebration, where parents are invited to see their children’s art work.

Student of the Month

Regarding academic results, global behaviour and altruism, every month a student is rewarded. It is deeply important at Doon to promote the balance between moral qualities and academic skills.

Upcoming Projects

We are indulging in projects to bring out the maximum potential of a child. This involves purchasing new equipment and updating the existing infrastructure. Since most of the parents are not even able to pay their children’s school fees, we are in search of external funds in order to finance our projects.

Fans and Water

For the time being, there are three KG classes in a single room. The average temperature in Chennai is about 35°C. These hot and humid temperatures make them suffocate and mandate an air-conditioned classrooms for the comfort of students.

Moreover, the tap water is not safe to drink in India, so we want to install a water purification system so that children and school staff have access to safe drinking water.

Activities / Games

In order to consolidate their knowledge and to have a solid body and mind development, we want to implement activity and game classes. To do so, we need to invest in stationeries such as paint, crayons, paper or materials such as plastic bikes. We also need to buy tables and chairs for the pre-KG students.

Smart Class

Last year, Doon School had invested in ‘Smart Class’ teaching. This is a complete program for Kindergarten students which includes lessons and activities in interactive audio-visual methods. But still the maximum potential of these smart classes are not reaching the children, due to ineffective speakers, TV-set and other hardware materials. Also, we are very proud to provide these classes in English, but then the English skills of the teachers are not up to mark. So we wish to offer them remedial courses in English.

Cultural Partnership

Today in this globalized world, cultural awareness is very important. Therefore, we are planning to build a partnership with another school, preferably abroad. This project relies on correspondence between two classes from the same level in English about their own culture, mailing written papers, drawing or anything creative articles.

Gardening

One of the biggest challenges that our community faces today is to preserve our ecosystem. We want the children to understand the importance of it by involving them in little projects such as seeding, vegetable farming, tree plantations, etc.

Field Trips

Awareness is fundamental in the development of a child. We wish the students discover the cultural, environmental, and others sites of Chennai, such as the railway museum, the zoo or the Guindy snakes park.
